3D-printed drive caddy for Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF

I purchased a used Dell Optiplex 7040 to use as a media center PC. The original system was shipped with a 2,5″ SSD and no space for a larger 3,5 drive.

Dell does sell drive caddys but what’s the fun in ordering one for +200SEK when you have a 3D-printer? 🙂

I began taking measurements of the original 2,5″ caddy and then began to model it in Tinkercad. When I was satisfied I did a test print to check measurements and how well it would fit and snap into place. Some minor adjustments was needed in the spacing of the lock mechanism and increase some hole diameters.

The end result is a functional drive caddy for 3,5″ drives. Effectively replacing the original Dell part (PN: 1B33N0U00)

The .STL-files along with printing info is available on Thingiverse as well as here.

Feel free to copy and edit the file on Tinkercad
